Fraction Calculator (Addition, Subtraction, Product and Division)

Easily calculate addition, subtraction, product and division of two fractions with this handy online fraction calculator. You only have to enter fraction 1, fraction 2 and select the operation you want to perform between them. The calculator will automatically display the result of the operation between both fractions.

Examples of uses of the fraction addition calculator

Addition of fractions

Example: 4/2 + 3/6

To add these fractions you must find the common denominator, for this the simplest thing is to multiply both denominators, in this case it would be: 2 x 6, which results in 12

Now you must divide 12 by the denominator of the first fraction (2) and multiply by the numerator of the first fraction (4). The full count would be 12 / 2 x 4, which results in 24 (Result 1)

The same must be done with the second fraction to be added: 12/6 x 3, which results in 6 (Result 2)

To obtain the result of the sum of the fractions, you must add: Result 1 + Result 2, that is, 24 + 6 = 30, this is the numerator of the sum fraction, and the denominator is the common denominator that was found at the beginning by multiplying denominators, or 12

The result of the operation is therefore: 12/30

You can verify this result using the online fraction calculator

Subtraction of fractions

To subtract fractions, proceed exactly the same as with addition, the only difference is that instead of doing Result 1 + Result 2, you must do Result 1 – Result 2

Product of fractions

Example: 3/5 + 2/7

To obtain the numerator of the product fraction, you must multiply the numerator of the first fraction by the numerator of the second, in this case it would be 3 x 2 = 6

The denominators must also be multiplied, that is denominator 1 x denominator 2, in our example it would be 5 x 7 = 35

The final result of the product would therefore be 6/35

We recommend that you verify this result and try other products using the online fraction calculator.

Division of fractions

Example: 1/2 ÷ 3/4

The procedure for dividing fractions is to multiply:

Numerator 1 x Denominator 2, that is: 1 x 4 = 4

Denominator 1 x Numerator 2, that is 2 x 3 = 6

The result of the division is 4 / 6
